The tone, however, is nothing like that of either Yamaha, or Selmer. The tonal color is dark, and very different than any other modern tenor I've ever played. Oddly, their is a "dark buttery" quality to the tone that reminds me of an old Buescher.Both the Reference 54 and AWO1 sound great; the AWO1 was just a smidge brighter. The AWO1 is a really free blower, and easier to play overall. The tone is a more focused and intonation is spot-on with minimal adjustment on my end. Sax Big Lip, and I love the sound. It's bright but not too edgy, and it's a beautiful sax for the price. I'm using a Link Supertone 8 and Hard Rico Plasticovers. I purchased the V1 and C1 Neck for my Yamaha 62 baritone: both sound rounder, warmer and more colorful than the included neck. The responce and artikulation are more direct and precise. The intonation is the most accurate with the C1 neck, this neck also sounds the warmest and most colorful.Add to this the fact that we identify instruments not so much from the timbre of the steady state sound, but from the attack transient. If you take a piano recording and cut the attack transient, and do the same pitch with an oboe, it's difficult to tell the piano and oboe apart. I got it back and now I have a new problem.
